When choosing a URL below, students should use the mail server (bcmail02; 03;
etc.) they were given when they got their e-mail account information. For example,
if your server name is bcmail02, you would log into: http://bcmail02.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange.
http://bcmail01.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail02.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail03.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail04.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail05.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail06.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail07.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
Note: if there are communication issues, please access via POP e-mail.
Need your E-Mail Account Info?
Every new student registered for at least one course for credit in a degree
program is automatically issued a student e-mail account. The
account is created quickly, but before it can be issued, ITS must receive all
data from the Office of the Registrar on the LAST day of registration (last
day courses can be added or dropped). This waiting period takes typically 2
to 3 weeks. All new students will receive a letter indicating their personal
e-mail address once it is established. If you did not receive or have lost your
letter, you may obtain your e-mail account information by visiting the Atrium
Student Lab (1306 Plaza Building) or by calling the Network Support Line at
(718) 677-6180 (Monday through Friday 9:00-5:00 pm).
Need the steps acceess E-Mail?
There are two ways to go about checking your e-mail account. We recommend setting up a POP e-mail client to access your account from outside Brooklyn College.
Also, you may access a special URL set up for quick access to the Brooklyn College student e-mail servers.
Configuring a POP E-mail Client
You can configure most POP mail clients to retrieve and send e-mail from your BC account.
To do this you will need:
POP E-MAIL STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
E-mail clients vary from product to product, but they all need basically the
same information to access your BC e-mail account. From within Netscape (Edit/Preferences/Mail);
Microsoft Internet Explorer Mail (Mail/Options/Server); or Eudora (Tools/Options/Getting
Started) you can set the mail client to retrieve and send mail. Refer to the
instructions provided with the software for specific information, but here is
a sample:
Using Microsoft Internet Mail as an example, assume
your e-mail address is:
student@bcmail.brooklyn.cuny.edu
The first time you run Microsoft Internet Explorer Mail (or most mail programs),
it will ask you a series of questions to set up your mail account. If you already
have Internet Mail running, and want to change settings to access your BC mail
account, then select "Mail" from the menu bar - then select "Options" - then
the "Server" tab. In either case, the following information must be entered:
Under Name/Organization/E-mail Address:
Put your full name; school (optional) and your return e-mail address
(for example: student@bcmail.brooklyn.cuny.edu)
Under Outgoing mail/SMTP Server list:
Enter your ISP's SMTP Address
Under Incoming mail/POP3 Server list:
<mail server>.brooklyn.cuny.edu
In this case you would enter the name of the mail server
you were given when you got your e-mail account. For example, if your e-mail
address is on mail server bcmail02, then you would enter the following under
incoming mail: bcmail02.brooklyn.cuny.edu
Under POP3 Account Name list:
Exchange Domain/Your E-mail ID (in this case BCACAD/student)
You can enter your password (student ID with no dashes
or spaces) or leave it out. For security reasons, it is better to leave it out.
Your computer will then prompt you for the password whenever you log in to receive
mail.
***Note: On all mail programs you will see an option to "leave messages
on server". If you are working from a public terminal (such as in the Library),
you should select this option. By leaving your messages on the server, they
will not be deleted from your account. If you are working from home, you may
wish to remove the messages from the server. The program will automatically
copy your messages locally to your computer (where you can view them) to save
disk space.
If you need assistance using e-mail, please contact the Atrium Lab (951-5787) and sign up for a free e-mail class.
You may conveniently access your e-mail from campus or home via the Internet.
To do this you will need:
Your E-mail ID (alias or username)
Your Mail Server Name (bcmail02, 03, etc.)
Your Password (Student ID)
Internet access and either of the following browsers: Netscape 3.0 + or Microsoft
Internet Explorer 3.02+
When choosing a URL below, students should use the mail server (bcmail02; 03;
etc.) they were given when they got their e-mail address. For example, if your
server name is bcmail02, you would log into http://bcmail02.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange.
Note: if there are communication issues, please access via POP e-mail.
http://bcmail01.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail02.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail03.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail04.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail05.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail06.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
http://bcmail07.brooklyn.cuny.edu/exchange/
Note: Regardless of your server (bcmail0x), all student e-mail addresses are in this format: student@bcmail.brooklyn.cuny.edu . If someone sends mail to student@bcmail0x.brooklyn.cuny.edu, you will not receive it.
